Summary:
The UI Design Manager drives the creative vision for cross platform, multi-device digital experiences in collaboration with AutoZone Marketing design team.   You will manage a creative team of designers that puts users first, while catering to key business goals; understanding and recognizing the importance of how research, data and analytics can inform design solutions.  This position will set web standards for the UI design team focused on global site design/implementation across multiple platforms. 
 
This position is a strategic advisor to AutoZone’s Digital Product Management team as well as Marketing. This position will work closely with Marketing and the product / program management team to develop UI Design strategies and specifications that will improve the performance usability and effectiveness of customer facing interfaces.  This role optimizes resource utilization of both internal resources as well as external digital vendors to deliver AutoZone digital experiences.   The ideal candidate will be technically savvy working with both front and back end development teams to ensure that designs can be supported in a technically sound manner.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and take ownership of the creative vision, interaction patterns, visual comps, prototyping, specs and style guides
  • Drive and creates innovative clean design concepts using industry best practices to enhance website design and functionality though the use of various UI design tools.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to provide design solutions from wireframes to high fidelity comps across multiple platforms and tools using industry best practices.
  • Create, improve and use wireframes, prototypes, style guides, user flows, and effectively communicate your interaction ideas using any of these methods.
  • Strong artistic eye for design and the ability to think creatively while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Design visually compelling user interfaces and lead in the creation of design documents.
  • Work closely with the marketing and product teams to design engaging interfaces across multiple platforms (i.e. responsive web sites, mobile apps, etc.).
  • Demonstrate strong ability to use design thinking to solve user experience problems through design while being a self-starter with a positive attitude and enthusiasm for hard work.
  • Create modular UI components based on Atomic Design Principles.
  • Provide clear, concise documentation for code and style guides
  • Work closely with project teams during design phase to ensure proper resources are in place to meet project UI goals while making certain deadlines are being met.
  • Strategic in focus; will work closely with the Technical Architect on the Front End Development team to ensure sites are designed in accordance with design and coding standards.
  • Solicit feedback, lead and participate in peer design reviews and critiques to influence the direction of design deliverables for various projects and campaigns.
  • Develop design systems (style tiles, pattern libraries, responsive guides), data visualizations, UI elements, etc.
  • Rapidly iterate on design prototypes and working applications
  • Knowledge of and experience with designing for responsive design and cross platform native applications
  • Work closely with a cross discipline team to brainstorm, ideate, and iterate as needed.  Work with front-end developers to collaborate and push the envelope on native applications and responsive web design solutions
  • Work in tandem with developers to create a seamless delivery process, and not just handing over designs
  • Manage time effectively for yourself and your team to ensure meeting internal and client specific deadline
  • Ability to work and lead a team within a fast paced, agile environment while not compromising on the high quality of thinking, approach and deliverables
  • Be an integral part of our experience design team, continually helping to define innovative experience design solutions, staying up to date on the latest design and technology trends
  • Mentor and manage UI Designers.  Provide guidance, support as needed.  Assess performance on a regular basis and develop actions plans that support professional development and career progression as per Tigerspike’s career development framework
  • Ability to manage and resolve project and leadership based challenges in a fair, professional and effective manner
 
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent in Graphic Design, Communications, Design, Marketing, Design Management or Computer Science
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in web design & web development technologies and managing teams
  • Demonstrated experience working with Responsive Web Design/Development.
  • Expert coder in the following languages/technologies: PHP, HTML, DHTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, AJAX.
  • Expert understanding of the technologies involved in web development and how to implement them.
  • Proven experience with large-scale e-commerce web sites, UI design, information architecture and experience with JSP coding is required.
  • Experience with ATG or other Ecommerce Platforms is desired.
  • Ability to lead teams.  Managed a team (co-located or distributed)
  • Expert design chops with exposure to design systems and patterns.
  • Expert knowledge of design tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, etc.
  • Strong understanding and demonstrated experience of responsive web design.
  • Solid understanding of the technologies involved in web development.
  • Proven experience with large-scale e-commerce web sites, UI design with some information architecture experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with Responsive Web Design/Development.
  • Superior creativity and passion for what you do
  • Organized, self-directed, efficient and able to manage complex projects in a timely manner
  • Strong leadership qualities that enable you to lead cross-functional teams and third party partners when needed
  • Able to analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information and present the results to the stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Portfolio that includes examples of leading creative strategies with significant business outcomes
  • Excellent presentation skills to pitch ideas, UX foundation/ UI strategy and concepts.
