Payroll Manager

Job Description

The Manager of Payroll (Payroll Processing) is responsible for leading a team to ensure accurate, efficient and compliant payroll processing, optimum configuration of payroll-related systems, and accurate payroll-related reporting.  Performs calculations, analyses/interprets data, makes decisions, recommends solutions and solves problems under pressure.  Performs end-to-end processing of US payrolls.  This position is accountable for meeting payroll objectives and building strong relationships with managers and HR partners.

Key Responsibilities

•             Manage all aspects of payroll processing.  Ensure payroll is processed and delivered consistently in an accurate, timely and compliant manner for all US AutoZoners following all federal and state wage and hour laws for all hourly and salaried employees.

•             Maintain audit programs and procedures to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the payroll process each pay period.  Provide auditors with supporting documentation as necessary.  Respond to auditor inquiries.

•             Develop and maintain record keeping practices that ensure compliance with company policy and procedures and implement strategies that improve payroll processes and efficiencies

•             Develop procedures, processes, and lead initiatives that bring automation and reduction of manual effort in payroll

•             Manage and develop exempt and nonexempt personnel as a best-in-class payroll department.

•             Ensure the organization’s pay practices comply with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

•             Work across the organization with functional areas to address and resolve payroll issues

•             Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations that impact payroll processes and payroll taxes.

•             Work across the organization with functional areas to address and resolve payroll issues

•             Ensure the payroll processing team is staffed with qualified payroll personnel capable of meeting objectives and responsibilities.  

•             Mentor, coach, and develop the payroll team through cross training, establishment of objectives, communication of policies and procedures, and constructive discipline.  

•             Keep up to date on new regulations affecting the payroll processes

•             Manage and develop exempt and nonexempt personnel as a best-in-class payroll department

•             Provide WOW! Customer Service to all AutoZoners

Supervisory Responsibilities

•             This position has direct supervisory responsibilities

Education and/or Experience

 REQUIRED:

•             Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) in Accounting or Business Administration or equivalent Payroll Management / Processing experience

•             10+ years professional Corporate Payroll Manager experience with a large (50,000 + employees) multi-state payroll department processed in house

•             Demonstrated experience and knowledge in the areas of Payroll Tax and Payroll Accounting

•             Oracle or similar Cloud HCM Payroll experience

•             Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in the use of spreadsheet, database and word processing software.

•             Demonstrated customer service with excellent communication and problem-solving skills

•             Highly organized with attention to detail

•             Team player

•             Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions

PREFERRED:

•             Master’s degree

•             Experience in large scale HR and Payroll system implementations preferred

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

•             Certified Payroll Professional Preferred

•             Certified Public Accountant Preferred
